Black Employee Resource Groups: Diversity and Inclusion

What does a diversity and inclusion consultant do? If you ask this question to ten consultants, you may get ten different answers. There’s a weird personal-professional split around diversity and inclusion right now.

Diversity  seems to be  a very emotional topic at the individual level within the social economy.

Videos go viral of people speaking passionately about it, crying, talking about how it’s a moral imperative…and it is. People dedicate their entire Instagram personal brand to DEI. Hashtags become “revolutions” of the moment bringing a lot of emotional intensity and labor.

After speaking with many professionals, and supporting individuals in expanding awareness, I believe we are all diversity and inclusion consultants. We have a responsibility to examine our thinking and provide opportunities to include others with  new levels of awareness. That’s exactly what I do on my podcast, Bridge to U: Understanding and Black Unity.

As a multicultural woman, raised in the Bahamas with heritage from Nigeria, living in the United States, it is imperative that I share my stories of understanding and unity to bridge the gap between self and others.

One of the best ways I know to become more inclusive is to learn about others’ views, perspectives and experiences.

Diversity is only a part of the story. Inclusion is necessary.

On the podcast, we highlight stories of individuals who courageously share their journey to awakening of understanding among Black cultures. We often address polarizing topics with grace and compassion to model constructive conversations.
